Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) is a significant viral disease that affects cattle worldwide. BVD is caused by infection with the bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) which is of the Flaviviridae family of viruses. BVDV has been shown to contribute to bovine respiratory disease occurrence.

BVDV is transmitted to cattle through direct contact.
