Bovine brucellosis is an infectious, reproductive disease caused primarily by Brucella abortus but also from B. melitensis and B. suis. It affects cattle, water buffalo, and bison worldwide, resulting in abortions in unvaccinated cattle.

Transmission
B. abortus is transmitted to cattle through ingestion of placental tissues, transmammary, or contamination of wounds. It is also transmitted by ingestion of contaminated feed and water or from licking genitals of other animals.
