Blumea lacera is an erect, herbaceous annual plant with branched stems that is found in uncultivated lands of Africa through tropical Asia to New Guinea, northern Australia and Guam.
B. lacera is used frequently in ethnomedicine as it contains a variety of compounds including glycosides, triterpenoid, tannins, saponins, alkaloids and terpenoids.
B. lacera is a common cause of poisoning in cattle in Bangladesh. Most cases occur in the autumn during periods of scarce vegetation.
If treatment is started within 4 fours of ingestion, a combination of laxative, normal saline and vitamin B1 was found to be an effective combination of treatment.
